Illona Morrice

Illona was born in Denmark, Copenhagen, to artist parents. The family soon moved to Australia, but returned to Denmark when in her teens

On leaving college she opened her own studio/gallery, Billedmageriet, in the centre of Copenhagen.

She moved to England, having married a Brit, and settled eventually in Scotland.

Illona is a keen mountaineer and spends many days on Scottish hills summer and winter and can often be seen rockclimbing on seacliffs near her home in Moray, where she has her studios.
The rocks and mountains give great inspiration to many sculptures, the natural weathering of the stones and rocks are a constant source of wonder.

The last few years her work has become more abstract, parred down to the essentials, some work is produced in bronze in limited editions or one offs, others are in stoneware sometimes painted these are all one offs. Lately she has been carving in soft stone, these are also unique being handcarved and handpolished no two could be the same.
