Arrival

by road:

Take the A82 out of Glasgow on the north side of the Clyde River. Go up Loch Lomond to Tarbet. Carry on on the A83 to Arrochar and over the Rest and be Thankful towards Cairndow. At the bottom of Glen Kinglas take left turn onto A815 to Strachur. At Strachur turn right onto A886 to Glendaruel and on to Colintraive. When in Colintraive follow directions below.

by ferry:

Take M8 out of Glasgow direction Greenock. Continue through Greenock to Gourock and around the bay at Gourock to McInroy’s Point. Take Western Ferries from there to Hunters Quay across the Clyde. Western Ferries runs a continuous service back and forth until 10PM.

At Hunters Quay, turn right at the exit to the ferry terminal on the coast road direction Sandbank. After about 2 miles, at a T junction turn right onto A815 main road at Sandbank. Drive about 2 miles to a sign for Colintraive and Tighnabruaich on left B836. Turn left onto this road and follow mountain road for around 11 miles to end – a T junction with A886. Turn left again on A886 direction Colintraive. Go about 6 miles almost to Colintraive village centre.

Just after the sign for Colintraive but before you enter the village, turn right onto Coastal Road (B866) which winds round to the right. Caol Ruadh is on left about a half mile along this narrow coastal road. Red brick pillars show entrance.

by sea:

N 55.931875 W 5.168965

Caol Ruadh is very accessible from the sea, and there are numerous protected anchorages nearby. The Kyles of Bute offer stunning sailing with protection from any wind direction. We welcome visiting yachts to the Sculpture Park.

Anchoring

We recommend you consult the Clyde Cruising Club Sailing directions for details on nearby anchorages, although there is good anchoring to the South East of Caol Ruadh avoiding the small rocks to the west and the shallow from the burn to the East.

Mooring

There are moorings available to patrons of the Colintraive Hotel to the North of the Ferry slip.
